Buyers ask: What does a pentest actually cost?

Why your pentest quote is probably padded

Daan de WitSecurity consultant, Northwall IT Recorded 26 Oct 2026Published 28 Oct 2026

A pentest for a fifty-person company is four days of work.

That is the answer from Daan de Wit, who has run pentests at Northwall IT for 14 years. Most quotes he reviews are three weeks.

“Most quotes I see for a fifty-person company are three weeks of work. It should be four days.”

Daan de Wit, security consultant

Where the other eleven days go

He sees the same padding in almost every quote. None of it makes the test any better.

  • A retest of every finding+3 days
  • A phishing round nobody asked for+5 days
  • A report billed by the page+3 days
  • Padding in a three-week quote11 days

His advice: ask for testing days and reporting days as separate lines. Four days of testing should look like four days on the quote.

Most quotes I see for a fifty-person company are three weeks of work. It should be four days. Here’s what gets padded in.

A retest of every finding, and a phishing round nobody asked for. Then a report billed by the page.

Lab figures come from the GEO study, a 2023 test on GPT-3.5. Field figures are correlations on live ChatGPT answers. Strong signs of what gets quoted, not a ranking promise.

Your expert talks for two minutes. Six AI agents take it from there.

Each agent does one job, in the same order, on every answer. None of them puts words in your expert’s mouth: Jonas checks every quote against the recording, and nothing goes live without your OK.

My experts have no time. Will they really do this?

That is the whole point. Max sends one question a week on WhatsApp, and they answer with a two-minute voice note or video. No login, no writing, no meeting. Want it in full quality? Every question comes with a link to record in your browser.

Do we need another tool or a login?

Your experts don’t. They only use WhatsApp: Max asks, they answer with a voice note or video. You can run it from WhatsApp too. Approve drafts, ask how it’s going or tell an agent what to change. The dashboard is there when you want the detail.

Where do the questions come from?

Noor looks at what your buyers search for on Google and ask in AI chats like ChatGPT, and turns that into a year of questions only your experts can answer. You pick, change or drop any question.

Is this just AI-written content?

AI agents do the writing, the SEO and the checking, but only from what your expert said. Every quote is literal and traceable to the recording, and you approve every blog before it goes live.

Who approves before anything goes live?

You do. Every blog lands with you first, and nothing goes live without your OK.

Where does it get published?

On your own site, through our WordPress plugin, as a blog with your expert’s name on it. Every quote comes with a clip from the recording, and the full transcript sits underneath.

Can you promise rankings or AI citations?

No. Nobody can. What we do promise: every blog answers a question your buyers ask, in your expert’s own words, with every quote traceable to a recording.

What do we get for free?

Your first three blogs. Invite up to three experts, Max asks each of them one question, and you get a blog from each answer to approve and publish. No credit card. Don’t continue? You keep the three answers and everything made from them, and you can publish it. If you want more, you pick a plan.

Can we use videos and blogs we already have?

Yes. Import existing videos and blogs and they become answers too. A good way to start, but new answers from your team are what make the difference.
